Numbered edition of 10.
When I first attempted the Crucible shape, I cut a pile of terracotta clay into different weights and let my hands take over, throwing a range of forms and sizes in search of the shape I had in my head.
From these experiments I selected two pieces and began trying to understand why they worked. Through a series of geometric drawings I eventually discovered that they didn't follow the perfect rules I had imagined — an important lesson, and the beginning of a much longer investigation.
These two vessels became the starting point for the entire Crucible family.
For this edition I will recreate them in the same simple, raw, unglazed terracotta, but with hands that have since made thousands of iterations.
